FAQ's

Seeing Another Physician

Generations Med Clinic operates as a team-based family practice. While your assigned family physician remains responsible for your ongoing care, another physician may see you when necessary to ensure you receive timely medical attention.

You may be offered an appointment with another physician if:

  • Your family physician is on vacation or other approved leave.
  • Your family physician is away due to illness or another unexpected absence.
  • You require an urgent or same-day appointment and your family physician has no appointments available.
  • You require an intimate examination and request a physician of a specific gender (subject to availability).

No. Routine follow-up appointments, annual reviews, medication reviews, chronic disease management, and other non-urgent visits are booked only with your assigned family physician.

This helps maintain continuity of care and ensures the physician most familiar with your medical history is managing your ongoing health needs.

No. Patients are attached to one designated family physician. We do not offer appointments with other physicians based on personal preference.

No. We do not process requests to transfer from one physician to another within our clinic.

Each physician maintains their own patient panel, and transferring between physicians within the clinic is not permitted.

No. Seeing another physician for collegial coverage is temporary and does not change your assigned family physician.

Once your family physician returns, all routine and ongoing care will continue with them.

We will do our best to arrange care with another physician at the clinic whenever appropriate. The covering physician will document your visit so your family physician can continue your care when they return.

If your concern cannot safely wait and your family physician has no availability, our reception team may offer you the earliest available appointment with another physician at the clinic.

Because Generations Med Clinic operates on designated physician panels, if you are discharged from your assigned physician's panel, you are discharged from the clinic as a whole. You will not be reassigned to another physician within Generations Med Clinic.
